Black Hole Formation from Massive Scalar Fields
It is shown that there exists a range of parameters in which gravitational collapse with a spherically symmetric massive scalar field can be treated as if it were collapsing dust. This implies a criterion for the formation of black holes depending on the size and mass of the initial field configuration and the mass of the scalar field. متن کاملQuantization in black hole backgrounds
Quantum field theory in a semiclassical background can be derived as an approximation to quantum gravity from a weak-coupling expansion in the inverse Planck mass. Such an expansion is studied for evolution on “nice-slices” in the spacetime describing a black hole of mass M. Arguments for a breakdown of this expansion are presented, due to significant gravitational coupling between fluctuations...
متن کاملStatic Black Hole dressed with a massive Scalar field
A four-dimensional static black hole solution of Einstein equation conformally coupled to a massive and self interacting scalar field is obtained. A nontrivial scalar solution proposes a weak scalar hair. A dressed black hole shows a trace of scalar charge in the metric signalling the presence of scalar hair. A number of metrics with regular horizons and temperatures are also proposed. PACS num...
متن کاملLate-Time Dynamics of Scalar Fields on Rotating Black Hole Backgrounds
The purpose of the studies presented in this paper is to point out the need for further work towards a definitive answer to the following question: How do perturbations of a rotating black hole get radiated away? Using the Teukolsky formalism [1], we can search for an answer to that question by studying the evolution of a complex spin-weighted wavefunction that is defined in terms of curvature ...
متن کاملMassive scalar field near a cosmic string
The ζ function of a massive scalar field near a cosmic string is computed and then employed to find the vacuum fluctuation of the field. The vacuum expectation value of the energy-momentum tensor is also computed using a point-splitting approach. The obtained results could be useful also for the case of self-interacting scalar fields and for the finite-temperature Rindler space theory. PACS num...
